Season Summary
2004
was another record setting year for the FSU women's soccer program.
In the first
week of play, FSU broke into the top 10 in the NSCAA Great Lakes
Regional rankings at # 9. The team had not been ranked since the
third week of the 2001 season.
FSU
recovered from a upset loss to Greensburg in early October and for the
fourth year in a row, claimed
the AMCC Championship title and received the AMCC's first automatic bid
to the NCAA Tournament. They would face
regional foe, Westminster, for the second straight season and again
Frostburg pulled out a thrilling victory - this time in the penalty
shootout, winning 5-3. The Bobcats ended the 2004 season in the second
round
of the NCAA Tournament as nationally ranked Christopher Newport found
victory in a 2-1 win at CNU. Despite losing the match, Frostburg
had done
something that no other team had done in the program’s 11-year history,
it had scored a goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The
team posted
the best winning percentage in the program’s history finishing with a
14-3-3 record allowing just 14 goals, only 2 of which were in
conference play.
